Built by N.A. Dadd & Sons Limited for the proposed Door Valley Tramway in 1882.
The Door Valley line ran into financial difficulties very early on, and the tramway was never completed. Y CARIAD was eventually returned to Dadd and moved to Candlebridge in 1885.
